Wednesday 23rd April marks World Book Night—a national celebration of reading and books that’s open to everyone, whether you consider yourself a ‘reader’ or not! It’s a chance to dedicate time to a book you love, try something new, or even share recommendations with friends and family.
To celebrate, Peterborough Libraries will be hosting a stand at Queensgate Shopping Centre from 9am to 4pm (with the kind permission of Centre Management). Find them near the Westgate Arcade crossing, where the friendly library team will be on hand to chat about all things books. While you’re there, why not find out more about what Peterborough Libraries & Archives has to offer? From thousands of books to borrow, to the fantastic BorrowBox e-title loan service, there are so many ways to enjoy reading—wherever you are, however you like!
The team will also be giving away free copies of A Boy Called Saul, a gripping thriller by the popular author Fiona Cummins. This title is part of the Quick Reads collection and has been generously provided by The Reading Agency.
World Book Night isn’t just about picking up a book—it’s about making reading part of your everyday life, so join the national celebration. Here’s how you can get involved:
From 7pm to 8pm, everyone is encouraged to take part in #ReadingHour—whether that’s by reading a book, listening to an audiobook, or even just talking to others about stories you’ve enjoyed. Share your reading experience online using the hashtag #ReadingHour and join the national conversation!
A little reading can go a long way—helping to reduce stress, spark curiosity, and connect us with others. This year, World Book Night is inviting everyone to join the Road to Reading challenge! All you have to do to take part is pledge to read for at least 30 minutes each week and see what a difference it makes to your life. Whether it’s a novel, a magazine, or even an audiobook—every little bit counts!
Sign-ups open on 16 April—and the challenge will run for 10 weeks. Participants will also contribute to a national reading research project, helping to understand how reading impacts lives across the UK.
Reading is for everyone—so whether you’re a book lover or just getting started, why not take the pledge? Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to join in too!
Become a member of Peterborough Libraries & Archives, it’s free to join!
