Curious about your house's history?

Have you ever looked at your house and wondered about its history? Who used to live in this house? When was it built? How has my house changed over time? At Peterborough Archives Service we have the resources to provide you with answers on your house history. Archive Assistant Elisabeth Kingston has created a house history guide you can currently access in the Archive Reading Room at Peterborough Archives Service.

Peterborough Archives looks after records from 1245 to the present day. Examples of the types of records we hold include; maps, photographs, public records (court, coroners, Peterborough Development Corporation records), Local Government records (council minutes, planning and building control), school records, police records, newspapers.

For example, attached is an image of a Property Sales Particular from Fox and Vergette Auctioneers and Valuers. Property Sales Particulars may give details of the property and any land for sale, photographs or names of the vendor and purchaser, with prices and dates of sale. This is just one example of the many documents we have that can provide you with details on your house history.
